How to Power On / Off / Force Restart your iPad

If your iPad isn’t working as expected, you can try restarting it by turning it off, then turning it back on. If turning it off and on doesn’t fix the issue, try forcing it to restart.

Turn iPad on or off 


  1. Turn on iPad: Press and hold the top button until the Apple logo appears.
  2. Turn off iPad: Press and hold the top button and either volume button simultaneously, then drag the slider to turn off the iPad or Settings selectedImg  to turn off iPad.


Force restart iPad

If iPad isn’t responding and you can’t restart it by turning it off and on, try forcing it to restart.


To force restart iPad 

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the Top button.
